Novel Study

This week Te Ngahere started to do a novel  study. A novel study is when you study a book and do tasks to see what you learnt about the book. The book I choose is called Lost. It is a book about two friends that are on a plane because they are studying a new planet called Eco. It is a cloned planet of Earth, but then they crash. That is all I have got up to. I like doing this because I like reading. What I think I am doing well is answering the  task properly. I can’t wait to finish the reading the book.

Duffy books

This week Paihia School had our very first Duffy assembly. We had a special guest called Zinkie, who is from a book. She was dressed up in colourful clothes. She came to talk about Duffy books, imagination and why we should read. We had to sing a song  that was made for Duffy books. Duffy books is something that the school subsidises so  every student gets to have two free books. A Duffy assembly is something where we thank Duffy books for giving us books. One person from each class gets chosen and they get their books in front of the school, and the rest back in class. I enjoyed having Zinkie come. It was really fun to have her.

Art

This week Te Ngahere  started silhouette art. First I started painting my background. We had to choose warm or cool colours, I choose warm colours because I love summer, warm colors are red, orange, yellow and white. I painted red then orange and I painted yellow semi circle for the sun and I painted the bottom with a light orange. After I finished I had to choose what silhouette I wanted on it, a bird, flower, tree.We had to choose a specific thing because since we live in New Zealand it had to be native to our country I choose a bird it was Tui. I drew a Tui then cut it out and I stuck it on my background. I think I did well with painting the sunset.I enjoyed the painting because I got to express my feelings.

Takeaways

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about healthy and unhealthy eating. On Monday we learned about takeaways and how much fat is in it. Whaea Gina came in with
some pictures and bottles she showed us two hearts a healthy one and a unhealthy one. The healthy heart had a little bit of fat because every heart needs to have a
little fat. Then the unhealthy one had lots of fat around it. The takeaway  that has the most fat is Carl's Jr because it has 14 teaspoons of fat that is a lot. The healthiest one is Subway because it only
has 0.5 teaspoons of fat. I think that I did well with listening and not talking while Whaea Gina was talking. I liked looking at how much fat is in each takeaway. In the future I am going to watch how much takeaways I eat and how much fat is going in my body.

Tech

This term Te Ngahere was starting technology. My group was  Bella, Tayla and I.
We decided that we were going to build a chip and dip tray.
We finished our project in week 6. I really enjoyed making it because it teaches me how to use tools
I have never used before. I think next time I could make something bigger and bolder.
We were making this so we could sell it and put the money towards our camp next term.

Game

In Te Ngahere we have been looking at how much gaming we have been doing.
We discovered that most of the people spend hours gaming.
So our teacher Mr Lindsay created a form with questions about gaming.
Our teacher created a slide with the results of the questions.
We had a look and found out lots about our class like 36% of
people in our class get angry if their device is taken away.
So today we made an infographic to show our statistics on gaming.

Beeswax wraps

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to make beeswax wraps. First you get a piece of fabric and then draw the design you want on it. I wrote all my friends names. Then you get a big pot and fill it with really hot water and put beeswax in it. After, you grab your fabric and dip it into the hot pot and a few times then you hold it above the edge of the pot for a few seconds. Then you take it from the pot and hold it above a piece of cardboard. When it stops dripping it is done. I liked making the beeswax wraps. The reason why we are making beeswax is because we are trying to have litterless lunches so this is one way to help with that. Because if will use these instead of having glad wrap we can reuse them and not throw them out  and make more litter.
