Beeswax wraps

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to make beeswax wraps. First you get a piece of fabric and then draw the design you want on it. I wrote all my friends names. Then you get a big pot and fill it with really hot water and put beeswax in it. After, you grab your fabric and dip it into the hot pot and a few times then you hold it above the edge of the pot for a few seconds. Then you take it from the pot and hold it above a piece of cardboard. When it stops dripping it is done. I liked making the beeswax wraps. The reason why we are making beeswax is because we are trying to have litterless lunches so this is one way to help with that. Because if will use these instead of having glad wrap we can reuse them and not throw them out  and make more litter.

CELEBRATION TIME

In Te Ngahere we have been celebrating our work. Each Friday we gather around after lunch to celebrate what we have achieved in that week. Our teacher Whaea Becks has brought some treats like lollipops. Each time we get 80% 5 time or over in Read Theory we get a lollipop, and each time we get 10% more on XtraMath we get a lollipop. When you pass addition, subtraction or multiplication you get a mini chocolate. And then when you finish division you get a big chocolate bar. Last week I got 4 lollipops for XtraMaths and 1 lollipop for Read Theory. I got two mini chocolate bars for finishing addition and subtraction on XtraMaths. I like the new idea because now everyone is working harder to achieve our goals.

Story Bird

Yesterday we got to use Storybird or Storyjumper to make a book from our writing. I chose Storybird because I think it is easier to use. Next I had to choose what writing to add into the story. I chose my Snorkeling writing. We had to put together pictures and the writing to make a book. I hope you like my book!

Disco

Last night Paihia School had a disco. The junior disco was from 5.30 to 6.30 and then after theirs the seniors had theirs from 6.45 to 7.45. It was a two dollar entry fee. We had lots of things to buy. Drinks and lolly bags were $1 each and glow sticks and toys were $2-3 dollars and the american hot dogs were $3 dollars each. We had awesome music because four people in my class got to chose it. I had so much fun last night I hope to do it again.

Kids Cans fundraiser

Today we have a ‘Kids Can’ fundraiser. We get to dress up as anything we want but we had to bring a gold coin donation for ‘Kids Can’. Today I dressed up as a Hurricanes player and my sister as a cheerleader. I like dressing up because we can be anything we want. ‘Kids Can’ helps us and gives us things we need so we  need to fundraise for them to show our appreciation.

Healthy eating

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about healthy eating with Whaea Gina. We had these traffic lights to explain if these drinks are good. Green meant we should have it  everyday, orange meant once a week and red meant once a month or never. First we laid down the colour cards and then we got to go up and get given a drink and we had to choose where it would go. Things in the green were water and milk because they are good for us. Things in the orange are juice, chocolate milk and also powerade because juice has sugar in it and so does chocolate milk, powerade can be good for you if your sick so that is why is is in orange. Things in red is energy drinks and fizzy's because they all have way too much sugar. Whaea Gina said we should only have 5 teaspoons of sugar a day. Now that I know this I will try to make healthy choices with my drinks.
